Chapter Seven

Falden watched with envy as Isabella’s hands caressed the steering wheel as if touching a lover. Every smile and satisfied mutter she breathed as she drove them—far faster than the human posted speed limits suggested was safe—to the Caldorian base made him grow harder. Trying to ease the discomfort in his cramped legs and rearrange himself in the passenger seat was no easy task. Human transport vehicles were not meant for warriors of his size.

“God, I love this car.” She smiled and he realized he was felling jealous of the car. Ridiculous.

“You are going to draw attention from the police who monitor these roads,” he murmured, not truly caring how fast she drove as long as she continued to look at him as she was now. In fact, if anyone were to follow in a similar transport vehicle, they would be unable to keep up. “Is this the maximum speed of this vehicle?”

At that, she threw back her head and laughed, her foot stomping on the gas. “Not quite. Hang on!”

That had him arching his brow as he was pushed back in his seat by the increase in speed, his lips twitching in amusement. He could not deny her the simple pleasure she experienced while driving the vehicle, and suddenly, he did not mind that he had not mastered the art of driving. As he had learned the moment he touched her, stroked her body, he found it difficult to deny her anything that brought her pleasure. Anything that earned him those soft moans of surrender, made her gaze soften with desire or glow with need.

They were bright now, not with need but excitement.

She was not joking. It would appear she had developed a love bond with this vehicle. “You may have it.”

“Have what?”

“This car.”

She zoomed off the exit toward the base and slammed on the brakes, nearly throwing him from his seat. “What?”

Falden thoroughly enjoyed her look of shock. Delight. Suspicion. Somehow this simple gift had managed to catch her completely off guard. He made a mental note and decided to surprise her as often as possible. “Did I stutter?” He asked the question in a neutral tone as he stared at the glowing swirls on his hands, his arms. She’d done this to him. Everywhere he could see, his markings were lit up with opalescent fire. With light. With her.

The other Lumerians, even the Caldorians would know instantly that this female had chosen to touch him, to rub maju paste on every inch of his body. That she had claimed him in the most primitive way possible among the Lumerian people.

By lighting his markings, they’d announced their intent to begin a life-changing process, the Yielding, where two become one, but he would not force that on her. She had not understood what rubbing his body down would mean. And fortunately he’d warned her not to rub the paste on her own flesh. Otherwise he would have a much bigger problem than the teasing he would be forced to endure.
